What is the difference between PTFE and EPDM valves

The differences between PTFE and EPDM valves are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

  • Material characteristics

PTFE valve: PTFE is polytetrafluoroethylene, which has extremely high chemical stability, hardly reacts with any chemical substances, has strong corrosion resistance, and can withstand the erosion of almost all chemical substances such as strong acids, strong alkalis, and strong oxidants. Its friction coefficient is extremely low, it has self-lubrication, a smooth surface, is not easy to adhere to the medium, and has a wide temperature resistance range, and can be used in a temperature range of -200℃ to 260℃.
EPDM valve: EPDM is ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber, which has good ozone resistance, aging resistance, and weather resistance. It has certain resistance to polar solutions and chemicals, but poor oil resistance. Its temperature resistance range is generally -50℃ to 150℃.

  • Application scenarios

PTFE valve: commonly used in high-purity chemical transportation, reactors, pipeline systems, etc. in chemical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, electronics and other industries. It is also suitable for industries with high hygiene requirements such as food and medicine. It can also be used in some special working conditions with high temperature, high pressure, and strong corrosion, such as nuclear industry and marine engineering.
EPDM valve: widely used in water treatment, water supply and drainage, HVAC and other fields, often used to transport water, steam, hot water and other media, and also suitable for some occasions with high requirements for ozone resistance and aging resistance, such as automobile cooling system, building waterproof seal, etc.

  • Sealing performance

PTFE valve: PTFE material itself has good sealing performance. Its self-lubricating and surface smoothness make it not easy to produce friction and wear during the sealing process, and can maintain a good sealing effect, especially suitable for occasions with high sealing requirements.
EPDM valve: EPDM rubber has good elasticity and flexibility, can adapt to certain temperature and pressure changes, and has good sealing performance, but after long-term use, it may have problems such as aging and cracking, affecting the sealing effect.

  • Cost and maintenance

PTFE valve: PTFE material is difficult to process and the cost is relatively high. In the process of use, it is necessary to avoid extreme working conditions such as high temperature and high pressure to avoid deformation or damage of the material, and regular inspection and maintenance are required.
EPDM valve: EPDM rubber has relatively low cost and relatively simple processing technology, but its service life is relatively short, and seals need to be replaced regularly, and the maintenance cost is relatively high.
