What is a forged valve?

Forged valves are produced by applying pressure to a metal valve blank using forging machinery, causing it to undergo plastic deformation to obtain the desired valve forging. Forged valves achieve the required shape through plastic deformation, ensuring excellent properties such as high precision and high strength.

Forging Process

1. Forging: A processing method that uses forging machinery to apply pressure to a metal billet, causing it to undergo plastic deformation to obtain forgings with specific mechanical properties, shapes, and dimensions.

2. One of the two major components of forging. Forging can eliminate the porosity of cast metal and weld voids. The mechanical properties of forgings are generally superior to those of castings made of the same material. Important parts in machinery that bear high loads and operate under harsh conditions are often forged, except for simpler shapes that can be made from rolled plates, profiles, or welded parts.

3. Forging can be classified according to forming methods as follows:
① Open forging (free forging): Using impact force or pressure to deform the metal between two anvils to obtain the desired forging. This mainly includes manual forging and mechanical forging.
② Closed-die forging: The metal billet is deformed under pressure within a forging die cavity of a specific shape to obtain the forging. This can be further divided into die forging, cold heading, rotary forging, and extrusion. Forging can be further classified according to deformation temperature into hot forging (processing temperature higher than the recrystallization temperature of the billet metal), warm forging (below the recrystallization temperature), and cold forging (at room temperature).

4. Forging materials are mainly carbon steel and alloy steel of various compositions, followed by aluminum, magnesium, titanium, copper, and their alloys. The original states of the materials include bars, ingots, metal powder, and liquid metal. The ratio of the cross-sectional area of the metal before deformation to the cross-sectional area after deformation is called the forging ratio. Correctly selecting the forging ratio is crucial for improving product quality and reducing costs.

Characteristics of Forged Valves

Forged valves possess a range of unique characteristics that make them outstanding in applications. Through precision machining in forging machinery, the valve blank undergoes sufficient plastic deformation, ensuring high precision and strength in the forging. Furthermore, the forging process effectively eliminates internal structural defects in the metal, further improving the valve's durability and reliability. These characteristics make forged valves highly favored in various industrial applications.

Applications of Forged Valves

Forged valves play a crucial role in high-pressure pipelines, especially in small-diameter pipelines below DN50. They are widely used in various systems of thermal power plants, enabling precise control of the flow of various fluids, including air, water, steam, corrosive media, slurry, oil, liquid metals, and radioactive media. Their excellent mechanical properties allow them to withstand high pressures, making them ideal for applications with stringent fluid control requirements.
