Cast steel gate valves are shut-off valves made by casting metal steel. Their opening and closing element is a vertically moving gate, supporting only fully open or fully closed operation. They are suitable for media flow control in industrial pipelines such as petroleum, chemical, and power industries. Based on the sealing principle, they can be divided into two categories: self-sealing (high-pressure conditions) and forced-sealing (low-pressure conditions). Nominal diameters range from DN15 to DN800, nominal pressures from 1.6 MPa to 32.0 MPa, and applicable temperatures from -29℃ to 570℃.

Cast steel gate valves specification
According to material, gate valves can be divided into:
Carbon steel gate valves: such as WCA, WCB, WCC, etc., applicable temperature -46℃~425℃.
Stainless steel gate valves: such as CF8 (304), CF8M (316), etc., applicable temperature -198℃~816℃.
Low alloy steel gate valves: such as chromium-molybdenum steel (WC6, WC9, etc.), applicable temperature 550℃~750℃.
Technical parameters
Nominal diameter: DN15~DN800.
Nominal pressure: 1.6MPa~32.0MPa.
Applicable temperature: -29℃~570℃ (specific temperature varies depending on material).
Sealing type: self-sealing (high pressure) or forced sealing (low pressure).
Design Standards: API 600, ASME B16.34, BS EN 558, ISO 5752
Core Advantages of Cast Steel Gate Valves
- Low Fluid Resistance: When the gate is fully open, the medium flow path is almost unobstructed, resulting in low pressure drop, making it suitable for long-distance pipelines.
- Reliable Sealing Performance: The sealing surface is less susceptible to erosion and corrosion from the medium, especially the self-sealing structure, which performs excellently under high-pressure conditions.
- Effective Opening and Closing: The gate moves vertically, resulting in low friction and low operating torque, suitable for manual or electric control.
- Wide Media Adaptability: Capable of handling water, oil, steam, acidic media, etc. Valve body materials and sealing surface welding processes can be customized.
- Simple and Durable Structure: The valve body is precision cast with accurate geometric dimensions, ensuring a tight seal without internal machining, resulting in low maintenance costs.
Limitations of Imported Cast Steel Gate Valves
- Easily Abraded Sealing Surfaces: Long-term opening and closing may cause erosion or scratches on the sealing surface, requiring regular inspection or replacement of components.
- Larger Dimensions: The vertical movement of the gate requires significant installation space, which may be limiting for large-diameter valves.
- Longer opening and closing time: The gate valve needs to be fully raised and lowered to open or close, resulting in a slower response time compared to ball valves or butterfly valves.
- Higher maintenance difficulty: Repairing the sealing surface requires specialized equipment, and the processing of cast steel requires strict precision.
Applications of Cast Steel Gate Valves
Cast steel gate valves are widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemical, power, and metallurgy, specifically including:
- Oil Pipelines: For shutting off the transport of crude oil and natural gas; excellent high-pressure resistance and corrosion resistance.
- Chemical Plants: For controlling corrosive media such as acids, alkalis, and organic solvents; stainless steel or low-alloy steel is preferred.
- Thermal Power Generation: For shutting off boiler feedwater and steam systems; high-temperature resistance and reliable sealing.
- Water Treatment Systems: For urban water supply and sewage treatment pipelines; flat-bottomed seat design reduces siltation.
Selection of cast steel gate valves is mainly based on:
- Media characteristics: Analyzing chemical properties (e.g., corrosivity, toxicity), temperature and pressure conditions, and selecting corrosion-resistant materials (e.g., WC6 chromium-molybdenum steel for sulfur-containing natural gas).
- Operating conditions: Evaluating operating frequency (e.g., electric drive for frequent opening and closing), control method (pneumatic/electric for remote control), and ease of maintenance.
- System compatibility: Matching pipeline pressure rating (e.g., PN16.0MPa), connection method (flange or welding), and space constraints (rising stem/concealed stem design).
- Compliance: For the food and pharmaceutical industries, FDA certification is required; the entire product must be ISO 9001 quality system certified.
