Gate valves are typically used to completely shut off the flow of fluids or to provide full flow in a pipeline in the fully open position. Therefore, the gate valve can be used in the fully closed or fully open position. The gate valve consists of a valve body, a valve seat, a valve disc, a valve shaft, a gland and a wheel used to operate the valve.
- Advantages of gate valve
a. Fluid resistance is small. Because the valve body of the medium channel is straight through, the medium flow through the gate valve does not change its flow direction, so the fluid resistance is small.
b. Opening and closing resistance is small. Because the gate valve open and close the gate movement direction and the quality of the flow direction is perpendicular to the cut-off valve, compared with the gate valve, the gate valve open and close more energy.
c. Medium flow direction is not restricted. Medium can flow from any direction on both sides of the gate valve, can achieve the purpose of use, more suitable for the medium flow direction may change the pipeline
d. Structure length is shorter. Because the gate valve gate is placed vertically in the valve body, and the valve is placed horizontally in the valve body, and thus the structure length is shorter than the cut-off valve.
e. Good sealing performance. Fully open sealing surface is less erosion.
- Gate Valve Disadvantages
a. Sealing surface is easy to damage. When opening and closing the gate and seat contact sealing surface between the relative friction, easy to damage, affecting the sealing performance and service life.
b. Opening and closing time is long, high. As the gate valve must be fully open or fully closed when opening and closing, the gate stroke is large, opening requires a certain amount of space, high external dimensions.
c. Complex structure. More parts, manufacturing and maintenance is more difficult, the cost is higher than the cut-off valve.
