What is the function of the gate valve

1. Fluid on-off control
Cut off/connect the fluid: gate valve through the vertical movement of the gate plate to achieve complete cut off or full open flow of fluid, suitable for the need to strictly isolate or open the fluid scene (such as pipeline maintenance, system segment control).
Full-open and full-closed characteristics: gate valves only support two states of full-open (the gate is fully raised) or full-closed (the gate is fully pressed against the valve seat), can not regulate the flow or pressure, is a typical switching-type valve.
2. Sealing and operating characteristics
Sealing mechanism:
Self-sealing: rely on media pressure to press the gate to the valve seat (for low-pressure scenarios).
Forced sealing: need to press the gate by external force (such as handwheel, electric device) (high-pressure or high sealing requirements of the scene, such as chemical pipelines).
Low flow resistance design: when the gate is fully open, it is parallel to the fluid flow direction, and there is no obstruction in the channel, so the fluid resistance is very small (compared with globe valve and butterfly valve), which can reduce the energy consumption of pumping.
3. Application Scenarios and Advantages
Long-term stable working conditions: suitable for pipeline systems that do not require frequent opening and closing (such as water trunk pipeline network, industrial storage tanks isolation), long-term full-open can maintain low energy consumption flow.
Corrosion resistance and durability: stainless steel gate valve (such as 304/316 material) in corrosive media (acid, alkali) or high temperature steam environment with excellent performance, low wear rate of the sealing surface.
4. Typical Construction Limitations
Non-regulating: can not be used for flow regulation or throttling operation, if you need to fine control with other valves (such as control valves, ball valves).
Size and Weight: Because of the need to accommodate a vertical gate movement, the structure is usually longer and heavier than a butterfly or ball valve of the same calibre.
