What is the difference between top entry and side entry ball valves?

2. Sealing Methods

Top-entry ball valves: Primarily employing resilient or metal seals, their sealing performance is more reliable. Through the tight contact between the ball and the valve seat, top-entry ball valves effectively prevent fluid leakage, ensuring stable operation of the process system.
3. Installation Methods
Side-mounted ball valves: Simple to install and occupy little space, especially suitable for installations in space-constrained environments. Furthermore, side-mounted ball valves are easier to maintain and replace, saving significant time and costs.
Top-entry ball valves: Due to their larger size, they require more installation space. However, top-entry ball valves offer unique advantages in maintenance. Their internal components can be installed and disassembled from the top of the valve, eliminating the need to remove the valve from the pipeline, thus reducing maintenance difficulty and costs.
4. Applications
Side-entry ball valves: Due to their compact structure and convenient installation, side-mounted ball valves are particularly suitable for applications with limited space, winding pipelines, and complex layouts. For example, in chemical, metallurgical, and power industries, side-mounted ball valves can flexibly handle various complex pipeline layouts.
Top-entry ball valves are more suitable for applications requiring high sealing performance, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature resistance. In industries such as oil and gas, top-entry ball valves ensure stable fluid transmission under high pressure and high temperature environments, while effectively preventing leakage and contamination.
