What is API Wedge Gate Valve

Aug 25, 2025 Leave a message

The sealing surfaces of the disc in an API wedge gate valve are wedge-shaped, forming a specific angle with the disc centerline. The disc is driven to close by the valve stem. As the stem thrust increases, the normal force acting on the wedge-shaped sealing surfaces intensifies, enabling forced sealing. This enhances sealing performance for low-pressure media. Additionally, the disc sealing surfaces instantly detach from the valve seat upon opening, minimizing wear on the sealing interfaces.
