1. Basic Definition and Functions
The fireproof butterfly valve is a special butterfly valve designed for high temperature or fire risk scenarios. Its core function is to maintain structural integrity and block the flow of media at extreme temperatures to prevent the spread of flames along the pipeline. Different from conventional butterfly valves, its valve body, seals and drive mechanism need to achieve high temperature melting and seal failure protection through refractory material selection and fireproof structure design.
2. Key Design Features
Refractory Material Application
Valve body and butterfly plate: Made of high temperature resistant alloy steel (such as 304H, 316L) or welded steel plate, with a temperature resistance of more than 800°C, ensuring that the valve body does not deform during a fire;
Sealing assembly: Equipped with a metal hard seal (such as stainless steel + graphite spiral wound pad), it can still maintain sealing performance at high temperatures to avoid softening and failure of elastic materials.
Fireproof structure reinforcement
Valve shaft fireproof isolation: A fireproof stuffing box or ceramic fiber insulation layer is set between the valve stem and the actuator to block heat conduction to the external control system;
Emergency locking device: An integrated fuse trigger mechanism automatically closes the valve when the temperature exceeds the threshold, without external power support.

3. Typical application scenarios
Energy transmission system: gas pipelines, liquefied petroleum gas storage and transportation facilities, to prevent gas leakage in fires from exacerbating the disaster;
Industrial high temperature environment: steel plant flues, high-temperature exhaust gas pipelines in chemical plants, to block the spread of fire through process media;
Building fire protection system: Linked with fire sprinklers to control the emergency isolation of ventilation ducts in fire protection zones.
4. Performance Verification Standards Fireproof butterfly valves must pass ISO 10497 (valve fire resistance test) or API 607 certification. The test contents include: Fire resistance: remain sealed within 30 minutes after exposure to 750°C flame; Thermal shock resistance: can still open and close normally after being suddenly cooled by high-temperature spray of cold water.
