What are the types of relief valves

The main types of relief valves include the following:

  • Spring-loaded relief valves:

The sealing between the flap and the seat of this type of pressure relief valve depends on the force of the spring.
Spring-loaded pressure relief valves can be opened and closed automatically according to the working pressure of the system to ensure that the pressure of the medium in the equipment and pipelines is below the set pressure, thus protecting the system.

  • Lever-type relief valves:

The sealing between the flap and the seat of a lever-type pressure relief valve depends on the force of the lever and the weight.
This type of relief valve can also be opened and closed automatically according to the operating pressure of the system, improving the applicability of the relief valve.

  • Impulse Relief Valves (also known as Pilot Operated Relief Valves):

Pulse relief valves consist of a main relief valve and an auxiliary valve.
When the pressure of the medium in the pipeline exceeds the specified pressure value, the auxiliary valve opens first, and the medium enters the main relief valve along the conduit, and opens the main relief valve to reduce the increased medium pressure.

  • Safety valve:

Safety valves play a safety protection role in the system.
When the system pressure exceeds the specified value, the safety valve opens and discharges a portion of the gas/fluid in the system into the atmosphere/outside the pipeline so that the system pressure does not exceed the permissible value, thus ensuring that the system is not subject to accidents due to excessive pressure.

Each of these relief valve types has its own characteristics and applicable scenarios, and choosing the right type of relief valve is critical to ensuring the safety of equipment and personnel.
