Socket weld Ball Valve Structure and Working Principle

Structural Components

Valve Body: The main structure, typically made of cast steel or stainless steel, such as WCB, A105, SS304, SS316, etc.

Ball: The opening and closing element, mostly made of stainless steel (SS304/SS316), with a precision-ground surface to ensure a tight seal.

Seat: Employs an elastic sealing structure (such as PTFE), providing a reliable seal and reducing opening and closing resistance.

Stem: Bottom-mounted structure with a reverse seal design to prevent the stem from being ejected in case of abnormal pressure rise in the valve chamber.

Actuator: Manual, electric, or pneumatically driven, enabling remote or automated control.

Socket weld Ball Valve Working Principle

Rotating the valve stem rotates the ball 90° around its axis, thus opening or closing the valve:

Opening: The ball passage is parallel to the pipeline, allowing fluid to flow freely.

Closed: The ball passage is perpendicular to the pipeline, cutting off the fluid flow.

The ball and seat fit tightly together, ensuring a tight seal. The sealing surface is constantly closed, making it less susceptible to erosion by the medium.

Socket weld Ball Valve Core Features

Connection Method

  • Socket Welding: The pipe is inserted into the valve body socket and welded to form a fillet weld. Suitable for small-diameter (DN≤100) pipes, especially for thin-walled pipes (e.g., DN15-DN40), avoiding misalignment and burning problems that can occur with butt welding.
  • Reinforcing Function: The socket design enhances local strength, suitable for high-pressure conditions (e.g., PN16-PN64).

Socket weld Ball Valve Performance Advantages

  • Low Fluid Resistance: The ball's smooth passage results in a low resistance coefficient and low energy consumption.
  • Quick Opening and Closing: Only a 90° rotation is needed to complete the opening and closing action, making operation convenient.
  • Reliable Sealing: The elastic valve seat fits tightly with the ball, reducing the risk of leakage over long-term use.
  • Compact Structure: Small size and light weight facilitate installation and maintenance.
  • Wide Applicability: Handles water, oil, gas, and corrosive liquids (such as nitric acid and acetic acid), with a temperature range of -20℃ to 350℃.

Safety Design

  • Anti-Blowout Stem: A reverse-seal structure at the bottom of the valve stem prevents it from coming loose under high pressure.
  • Fireproof and Anti-static: Special materials and structural design meet fire and explosion-proof requirements.
  • Positioning and Locking: A 90° positioning mechanism and lock can be added to prevent accidental operation.

Socket weld Ball Valve Applications

Industrial Sector

  • Petrochemical Industry: Used in high-temperature and high-pressure pipelines to cut off or regulate media such as oil and natural gas.
  • Power Industry: Control of critical components such as steam pipelines and boiler feedwater systems.
  • Pharmaceutical and Food Industries: Clean pipeline systems to ensure uncontaminated media.
  • Paper and Metallurgy: Handles corrosive liquids or high-temperature steam.

Special Operating Conditions

  • Small Diameter High-Pressure Pipelines: Such as steam and compressed air pipelines of DN15-DN40.
  • Flammable and Explosive Media: Remote safety control achieved through pneumatic or electric actuators. Frequent start-up and shutdown scenarios: such as fluid switching in automated production lines.
