Pneumatic three-piece ball valve

Jan 29, 2026 Leave a message

The pneumatic three-piece ball valve is an industrial valve consisting of a ball valve and a pneumatic actuator. Driven by a pneumatic source, it achieves 90° rotation and is used for rapid shut-off or flow control of pipeline media. It features a three-piece valve body structure, including left and right valve bodies and a middle valve body, with bolted connections for easy disassembly and maintenance. It is suitable for automated control systems in industries such as petroleum, chemical, and power.

Pneumatic three-piece ball valve Structural Composition

Three-piece Valve Body

Composed of three independent parts (left valve body, right valve body, and middle valve body) connected by bolts to form a complete fluid passage.

Advantages: Easy to disassemble and maintain, especially suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature, or highly corrosive media conditions. The valve seat or ball can be replaced individually, reducing maintenance costs.

Ball

Typically made of solid stainless steel with a precision-ground surface to ensure a tight fit with the valve seat, achieving a zero-leakage seal.

The ball has a through-hole in the center; rotating 90° fully opens or closes the fluid passage.

Pneumatic Actuator

Compressed air drives a piston or cylinder, causing the ball to rotate.

Can be equipped with solenoid valves, positioners, and other accessories to achieve remote control, automatic adjustment, or rapid response.

Sealing Structure

The valve seat, made of corrosion-resistant materials such as PTFE and PPL, forms a soft seal or a hard metal seal with the ball, adapting to different media requirements.

Pneumatic three-piece ball valve Working Principle

Opening Process

Compressed air enters the cylinder of the pneumatic actuator, pushing the piston to rotate. This rotation, via the connecting rod, causes the ball to rotate 90°, aligning the through-hole with the fluid passage, thus fully opening the valve.

Closing Process

Compressed air enters the cylinder in the reverse direction, the piston returns to its original position, and the ball rotates 90° in the opposite direction, aligning the through-hole perpendicular to the fluid passage, thus closing the valve.

Adjustment Function (Optional)

When equipped with a positioner, the rotation angle of the ball can be precisely controlled via an input signal (e.g., 4-20mA current) to achieve flow regulation.

Pneumatic three-piece ball valve Core Features

Fast Response

The pneumatic drive has a short response time (typically ≤1 second), suitable for applications requiring rapid switching (e.g., emergency shut-off).

High Sealing Performance

The three-piece structure and soft-seal design ensure zero leakage, complying with standards such as API 6D and ISO 5208.

Strong Corrosion Resistance

The valve body and ball are mostly made of stainless steel (e.g., 304, 316L), while the valve seat material can be PTFE, PPL, etc., adapting to harsh environments such as acids, alkalis, and salt spray.

Easy Maintenance

The three-piece design allows for online replacement of the valve seat or ball without disassembling the entire valve, minimizing downtime.

Automation Integration

It can be integrated with PLC, DCS, and other control systems to achieve remote monitoring, fault diagnosis, and automatic adjustment.

Pneumatic three-piece ball valve Applications

Petrochemical Industry

Used for transporting crude oil, natural gas, chemical raw materials, etc., controlling pipeline flow, or emergency shut-off.

Water Treatment

Regulating the flow of media such as sewage, pure water, and seawater, or used as a backflushing valve.

Food and Beverage

Sanitary design (e.g., 316L material, polished finish) meets food-grade requirements and is used in production lines for juice, milk, etc.

Pharmaceutical Industry

Used for aseptic fluid control, such as the delivery and distribution of vaccines and pharmaceuticals.

Power Energy

Controlling media such as steam and cooling water to ensure the safe operation of equipment such as boilers and steam turbines.
