Electric regulating butterfly valve

Jan 23, 2026 Leave a message

An electric regulating butterfly valve is a valve device that uses an electric actuator to drive a butterfly plate to rotate, thereby automatically regulating parameters such as fluid flow and pressure. It is widely used in industrial, municipal, environmental protection, and new energy fields.

GNEE Group specializes in the production of valves. Please contact us to obtain the drawings.

Electric regulating butterfly valve Working Principle

The electric regulating butterfly valve consists of core components such as the valve body, butterfly plate, valve stem, and electric actuator. The butterfly plate is located inside the valve body and is connected to the electric actuator via the valve stem. When the electric actuator receives a control signal (such as a 4-20mA current signal or a 0-10V voltage signal), it drives the valve stem to rotate the butterfly plate from 0° to 90°.

By adjusting the angle of the butterfly plate, the opening area of the fluid passage can be precisely controlled, thereby achieving continuous adjustment of parameters such as flow rate and pressure. Some high-end models also support Modbus RTU/Profibus DP communication protocols, allowing integration with DCS/PLC systems for remote monitoring and fault warning.

Electric regulating butterfly valve Performance Advantages

  • Fast Response: Driven by the electric actuator, a 90° rotation is sufficient to complete the opening and closing action, with an opening and closing time of ≤15 seconds, 3-5 times faster than a gate valve. This makes it suitable for emergency shut-off or frequent adjustment scenarios (such as gas leak protection and chemical reactor feed control).
  • High Adjustment Precision: Supports continuous linear adjustment, with valve position accuracy reaching ±0.5%~±1%, precisely matching the system's fine-grained flow control requirements (such as temperature fine-tuning in heating networks).
  • Low Flow Resistance: When the butterfly valve is fully open, the flow path is nearly straight, resulting in a low flow resistance coefficient (≤0.5), far lower than that of gate valves (5-10). This leads to low pressure loss and superior energy efficiency (especially suitable for high-flow pipelines, such as municipal water supply and drainage systems with diameters above DN1000).
  • Compact Structure: The valve body length is only 1/3 to 1/2 that of a gate valve of the same diameter, and its weight is 40%-60% lighter, facilitating installation in confined spaces (such as offshore platforms and subway tunnels), reducing transportation and installation costs.
  • Strong Adaptability: Through material selection, it can cover a wide temperature range from -196℃ (cryogenic LNG) to 1200℃ (high-temperature flue gas). High-pressure butterfly valves can withstand pressures up to 42MPa (equivalent to high-pressure ball valves), making them suitable for extreme operating conditions such as petroleum refining and hydrogenation units.

Electric regulating butterfly valve Applications
