api 608 vs api 598

API 598 is the valve inspection and testing standard developed by the American Petroleum Institute (API). This standard specifies pressure testing methods and acceptance criteria for various industrial valves and serves as a crucial basis for valve quality control in the petroleum, chemical, and other industries. The standard primarily applies to common valve types such as gate valves, globe valves, plug valves, ball valves, check valves, and butterfly valves, but it also allows for application to other special valves after consultation between the user and the manufacturer.

API 608 specifies the design, materials, and inspection requirements for flanged and threaded pneumatic gate valves used in the petrochemical industry. It clearly defines the sealing class (e.g., Class V leakage rate, bubble-level testing for no visible leakage), pressure and temperature ratings (must match operating conditions PN1.6-PN42.0, temperature -29℃-425℃), and the valve body material must pass intergranular corrosion testing (for sulfur-containing media).

Feature API 608 API 598
