Cast iron soft-seal butterfly valves Description
The cast iron soft-seated butterfly valve is a fluid control valve primarily constructed with cast iron as the valve body material, combined with a soft sealing structure, offering both cost-effectiveness and sealing reliability. The valve body is cast from materials such as gray cast iron and ductile cast iron, providing excellent casting properties and mechanical strength, suitable for medium to low-pressure applications (typically pressure ≤1.6MPa, temperature ≤120℃). It can handle common media like water, air, and mildly corrosive liquids. The sealing component employs elastic materials such as rubber or PTFE, ensuring reliable sealing-even zero leakage-through tight contact between the disc and seat, meeting demanding sealing requirements.
The valve features flexible connection options, designed as either wafer-type or flanged, accommodating various installation spaces and pipeline configurations. Drive methods include manual, worm gear, electric, and pneumatic, allowing flexible selection based on operational needs. Its lightweight design minimizes flow resistance, with the disc posing minimal obstruction to fluid when fully open, ensuring high flow efficiency. The cast iron material is more cost-effective than stainless steel, making it ideal for large-scale applications with budget constraints.
Widely used in municipal water supply and drainage, HVAC, and industrial circulating water systems, this valve excels in medium to low-pressure fluid control. It combines cast iron durability, soft-seal tightness, and economical advantages, making it a preferred choice for such applications.

Advantages
1. Sealing Performance
Zero-Leakage: Elastic sealing materials tightly conform to metal valve seats, achieving bidirectional sealing that complies with ISO 5208 Class V or higher standards.
Automatic Compensation: Certain models feature spring-adjustable rings to compensate for tolerances between the shaft sleeve and valve body, as well as elastic deformation under medium pressure, ensuring long-term sealing stability.
2. Medium Resistance
Corrosion Resistance: PTFE sealing rings withstand highly corrosive media (e.g., strong acids, alkalis), making them ideal for chemical and petrochemical industries.
Abrasion Resistance: NBR rubber sealing rings exhibit excellent wear resistance, suitable for media containing solid particles (e.g., sewage, mineral slurries).
3. Temperature & Pressure Adaptability
Temperature Range: Standard rubber seals operate from -40℃ to 80℃, while specialized high-temperature rubber or PTFE can extend up to 200℃ (for temperatures above 200℃, a hard-seal butterfly valve is recommended).
Pressure Rating: Common nominal pressures range from PN0.6 to PN1.6, with some models reaching PN2.5. For high-pressure applications (>PN2.5), a hard-seal butterfly valve is advised.
4. Maintenance Convenience
Replaceable Seals: When sealing rings wear or degrade, performance can be restored by simply replacing the seals without dismantling the entire valve, extending service life.
Cost & Lifespan: While sealing performance is excellent, temperature resistance is limited, and lifespan is significantly affected by environmental conditions (typically 3–5 years). Initial costs are lower than those of hard-seal butterfly valves.
