Supply Specification
The valves were delivered for an offshore wind farm development in the Baltic Sea, supporting the offshore substation and the balance-of-plant packages that keep the platform's power and safety systems running.

Valve Types and Engineering Scope
An offshore wind substation draws on four valve families rather than a single type. The supplied package covered the isolation, regulation and backflow-protection functions across the platform's cooling, fire-protection and hydraulic systems.
Globe valves - EN 13709 / BS 1873, for throttling and regulation on transformer and generator cooling loops and chemical dosing.
Check valves - EN 12334 / API 594, swing and dual-plate, for backflow prevention on cooling-water and fire-pump discharges.
Ball valves - EN 1983 / API 608 / API 6D, trunnion and floating, full bore with double block and bleed for hydraulic and cooling-skid isolation.
Butterfly valves - EN 593 / API 609, large-bore, for seawater cooling, deluge and fire-water duties.
Engineering Requirements
Baltic Sea service sets a consistent engineering baseline that the supplied valves were qualified against.
Marine environment. External surfaces carried an ISO 12944 C5-M coating for continuous salt-fog and splash exposure on the open deck and substation topside.
Fire safety. Valves on deluge and fire-water service were fire-safe to API 607 with a graphite secondary seal and antistatic bonding per API 608.
Low temperature. Baltic winter operation calls for low-temperature-qualified materials and seals on exposed and shutdown lines, verified on the material certificates.
European compliance. Pressure-equipment duties followed PED 2014/68/EU, with EN design and testing standards applied throughout.
Standards and Certification
Design and testing followed the EN series for European offshore service, with API 607 applied to the fire-safe models. Pressure-equipment compliance was handled under PED 2014/68/EU, and quality management runs to ISO 9001. EN 10204 material certificates accompany each valve, and API monogramming was applied where the purchase order specified it.
Inspection and Acceptance
A witness attended the pressure tests so the record belonged to the shipment rather than a sample. Shell test ran at 1.5× design pressure and seat test at 1.1× design pressure, both to zero leakage. Each valve shipped with an EN 10204 3.1 material certificate, upgraded to 3.2 where third-party endorsement was required, backed by positive material identification, a hardness survey on critical parts, and magnetic-particle testing on welded bodies.
FAQ
Which valve types were supplied for the offshore wind farm?
The package covered globe, check, ball and butterfly valves. Globe valves handle throttling and regulation on transformer and generator cooling loops; check valves provide backflow prevention on cooling and fire-pump discharges; ball valves give full-bore isolation and double block and bleed on hydraulic and cooling skids; butterfly valves serve the large-bore seawater cooling, deluge and fire-water duties.
What standards apply to these offshore-wind valves?
Valves are built to the EN series for European offshore service (EN 593 butterfly, EN 13709 globe, EN 12334 / EN 13709 check, EN 1983 / API 608 ball), with API 607 for fire-safe models. Pressure-equipment compliance follows PED 2014/68/EU, and quality management runs to ISO 9001. EN 10204 material certificates accompany each valve.
How are marine and fire-safety requirements met?
External surfaces carry an ISO 12944 C5-M coating system for continuous salt-fog and splash exposure on the offshore substation. Valves on deluge and fire-water service are fire-safe to API 607 with a graphite secondary seal, and the complete assembly is tested for tight shutoff before shipment to the offshore base.
What materials are used for seawater and cooling duties?
Seawater-exposed bodies and trim use corrosion-resistant grades - CF8M (316) stainless and, where the cooling-water design calls for it, duplex 2205 - to resist chloride pitting. Carbon steel with a C5-M coating is used for the freshwater, hydraulic and utility lines that do not see open seawater.
What inspection and certification accompany the valves?
Each valve ships with an EN 10204 3.1 material certificate, upgraded to 3.2 where third-party inspection is specified. A witness attends the hydrostatic and seat tests - shell test at 1.5x design pressure and seat test at 1.1x with zero leakage - supported by positive material identification, a hardness survey on critical parts and magnetic-particle testing on welded bodies.
Can valves be supplied for offshore substation and hydraulic skids?
Yes. Offshore substation and hydraulic-power-unit skids require fire-safe certification, a C5-M marine coating and anti-vibration mounting for topside environments. The supplied package was delivered to that specification, with actuators and manifolds tested as complete assemblies and packed for direct transfer to the offshore installation vessel.
