What is the maximum pressure for a check valve

1. Pressure classification and range
Rated Pressure (Nominal Pressure):

Conventional check valves typically have pressure ratings ranging from 0.6MPa to 4.0MPa, covering low to medium-high pressure scenarios.
Special designs of swing check valves can support higher pressures up to 42MPa nominal (e.g., large diameter industrial valves).
Test Pressure:

The factory test pressure is generally 1.5 times the rated pressure, for example, a check valve with a rated pressure of 4.0MPa needs to pass a test pressure of 6.0MPa to verify sealing and pressure resistance.
2. High Pressure Application Scenarios
Hydraulic system:
Hydraulic cylinders or high-pressure tubes made of DIN2391 standard precision seamless steel tubes can withstand a system pressure of more than 30MPa, and are suitable for injection moulding machines and other high-precision equipment.
Industrial Valves:
Swing check valves can reach a maximum nominal pressure of 42MPa in large diameter pipelines in petroleum, chemical and other fields due to structural strength advantages.
3. the key influencing factors
Material performance:
High pressure check valves need to be made of low alloy steel (such as ST52, E355) or carbon structural steel to ensure that the yield strength is ≥355MPa and the tensile strength is 470-630MPa.
Manufacturing standards:
German standard DIN series valves follow a strict process, cold-drawn/cold-rolled precision steel tubes (e.g. DIN2391) dimensional tolerance control (e.g. H8/H9) directly affects the pressure stability.
In summary: The maximum pressure of check valves varies significantly by type and application. Conventional valves are mostly used up to 4.0MPa, while swing-open or customised industrial valves can reach up to 42MPa. For special applications (e.g. hydraulics), sustained pressures above 30 MPa can be supported by high strength materials.
