There are the following differences between the wafer check valve and the lug check valve:
Connection method
Wafer check valve: It is clamped on the pipeline by two flanges. There are earrings or holes at both ends of the valve. The valve is connected to the two flanges on the pipeline with bolts.
Lug check valve: There are lugs at both ends of the valve. The lugs are connected to the flange or bracket on the pipeline by bolts to fix the valve and the pipeline.
Structural features
Wafer check valve: The structure is short in length, small in size, and light in weight. It is usually only 1/4-1/8 of the traditional flange check valve, and the weight is only 1/4-1/20 of the traditional flange check valve. The overall structure is simple and compact.
Lug check valve: The structure is more complicated than the wafer check valve. Due to the presence of the lug, the overall size may be slightly larger and the weight is relatively heavy.

Installation method
Wafer check valve: When installing, just put the valve between the two flanges of the pipeline and then tighten it with bolts. It is easy and quick to install without additional support structure.
Lug check valve: When installing, the lug needs to be connected to the flange or bracket on the pipeline. Some auxiliary tools or brackets may be needed to fix the valve. The installation process is relatively complicated.
Applicable scenarios
Wafer check valve: Suitable for pipeline systems with limited space and narrow installation positions, such as pipelines in the chemical, petroleum, and electric power industries. It is often used to prevent medium backflow, prevent water pumps and their driving motors from reversing, and discharge of medium in containers.
Lug check valve: Suitable for occasions where special installation or additional support is required on the pipeline, such as some large industrial pipeline systems, where the check valve may need to be installed in a specific position. The lug check valve can be connected to the bracket on the pipeline through the lug to ensure the stability and reliability of the valve.
