What is the API 623 standard?

API 623 is a valve standard published by the American Petroleum Institute. This standard specifies the design, materials, manufacturing, inspection, and performance requirements for needle valves used under high temperature and high pressure conditions.

Other Compliance Certifications: Products comply with ASME B16.34 (valve pressure-temperature rating), ANSI B16.10 (valve structural length), and other American standards, and can provide special certifications such as fire resistance testing (API607/API6FA) and NACEMR0175 (resistance to hydrogen sulfide corrosion).

Structural and Technical Features

1. Optimized Valve Body Design

Flow Channel Structure: Utilizing a Z-type or Y-type valve body reduces the flow resistance coefficient and minimizes energy loss during media flow, making it suitable for applications requiring flow control.

Sealing Structure: The valve seat and valve disc employ hard alloy welding or metal-to-metal sealing (such as conical seals) to resist erosion and high temperatures, ensuring long-term sealing stability.

Self-Tightening Packing System: A multi-layer graphite or PTFE packing combination design, combined with a spring-loaded packing gland, automatically compensates for seal wear, adapting to frequent operation and temperature fluctuations.

2. Strong Material Adaptability:

Valve body material: Optional WCB (carbon steel), WC6/WC9 (chrome-molybdenum steel), CF8/CF8M (stainless steel), duplex steel, etc., suitable for environments ranging from low temperatures to high temperatures up to 600°C.

Internal parts material: Valve stem uses corrosion-resistant materials such as 17-4PH and 316SS; valve disc is overlaid with Stellite 6 hard alloy to improve wear resistance.

3. Diverse Connection Methods:

Flanged end: Complies with ASME B16.5 Class 150~2500, supports RF, RTJ, and other sealing surface types.

Welded end: Butt welding (BW) or socket welding (SW) to meet the requirements of high-pressure systems.

4. Flexible Operation:

Manual operation: Handwheel, gearbox, sprocket, etc.

Automatic control: Equipped with pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic actuators, supporting remote control and automation integration.

Performance advantages: High sealing rating and leakage level comply with API 598 standards, meeting Class IV/N requirements, suitable for hazardous media or environmentally demanding scenarios. The long-life design, erosion-resistant structure, and wear-resistant materials significantly extend valve maintenance cycles.

Convenient maintenance: The valve cover bolt connection design supports online repair or internal component replacement, reducing downtime costs.

Wide adaptability: Stable operation is possible from cryogenic liquefied gas to high-temperature steam, and from highly corrosive acids to high-purity media.

applications:

Petroleum refining: Media cutoff and regulation in atmospheric and vacuum distillation units and catalytic cracking pipelines.

Chemical production: Safety control of strong acids, strong alkalis, or highly toxic fluids.

Natural gas transportation: Emergency cutoff of station pressure regulating systems or long-distance pipelines.

Power plant systems: Flow regulation and isolation of boiler feedwater and steam networks.
