What is lug type knife gate valve

Jan 23, 2026 Leave a message

Lug-type knife gate valves are fluid control devices commonly used in industrial piping systems, primarily for cutting off or regulating fluid flow. They are suitable for handling various granular materials, slurries, gases, and low-viscosity fluids. Lug-type knife gate valves have a unique structural design that allows them to adapt to harsh working environments, and are widely used in industries such as chemical, mining, power, cement, and metallurgy.

Lug-type knife gate valve structural features

  • Lug design: The blade design of the lug-type knife gate valve features a lug structure. This design allows the valve to effectively cut materials and fluid flow, providing strong sealing and wear resistance.
  • Blade material: The blades are generally made of high-strength, stainless steel, or alloy materials to increase wear resistance and corrosion resistance, making them particularly suitable for handling solid particulate materials or slurries.
  • Valve body: The valve body is typically made of high-strength materials such as cast steel, cast iron, or stainless steel, capable of withstanding high operating pressure and temperature, and adapting to harsh environments.
  • Valve sealing: The lug-type knife gate valve is equipped with a high-efficiency sealing ring to ensure excellent sealing performance during opening and closing, preventing leakage.
  • Operation method: It can typically be operated manually, pneumatically, or electrically to adapt to different working conditions.

Advantages of Lug-Type Knife Gate Valves:

  • Strong Cutting Capacity: Due to the lug structure of the blade design, knife gate valves can cut solid particles, slurries, or viscous fluids, offering strong adaptability and effectively isolating or regulating material flow.
  • High Wear Resistance: The blades of lug-type knife gate valves have high wear resistance, maintaining good performance during long-term material cutting and reducing equipment maintenance frequency.
  • Good Sealing: Utilizing high-quality sealing materials, the valve effectively prevents material leakage when closed, ensuring system sealing.
  • Long Service Life: Due to its unique design and the application of wear-resistant materials, imported lug-type knife gate valves have a long service life, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.
  • Easy Operation: The valve is simple to open and close, with a fast response, allowing for rapid adjustment and shut-off as needed.

Lug-type knife gate valves also have the following disadvantages:

1. Limited gate stroke, unsuitable for applications requiring large strokes.

2. The knife-shaped gate structure easily accumulates media, increasing maintenance difficulty.

3. Slow opening and closing speed, unsuitable for applications requiring rapid cutoff of media flow.

Applications of Lug-Type Knife Gate Valves

  • Chemical Industry: Used to cut off or regulate the flow of liquids, gases, or slurries, especially slurries containing particles, effectively preventing material blockage.
  • Mining: Used for cutting off or regulating the flow of fluids containing particles, such as slurries and mud, in pipelines.
  • Cement Industry: Widely used in cement production processes for cutting off granular or powdery materials.
  • Power Industry: Used in pipelines transporting pulverized coal, dust, or other particulate materials, providing good sealing and cutting capabilities.
  • Metallurgical Industry: Used to control the flow of fluids or materials in high-temperature and corrosive environments.
