What is Electric Wafer Type Centerline Butterfly Valve
The electric wafer-type centerline butterfly valve is a centerline butterfly valve combining an electric actuator and a wafer-type connection structure. It features a compact structure, convenient installation, and a high degree of automation, and is widely used in industrial pipeline systems for regulating or shutting off fluid media.
Structural Composition
Valve Body:
Utilizes a wafer-type design, with flanges at both ends directly clamped between the pipe flanges using bolts, eliminating the need for additional support structures and saving space.
Centerline structure: The valve seat and valve plate sealing surfaces are located on the same centerline, resulting in low flow resistance and rapid opening and closing.
Valve Plate:
Circular design, rotating around an axis to open or close. Materials available include stainless steel (304/316), cast iron, and plastics (such as PVC, PP).
Electric Actuator:
Composed of a motor, reducer, stroke control module, and signal receiving module, supporting remote control or on-site manual operation.
Can receive 4-20mA current signals, switch signals, or RS485 communication protocol for precise regulation or on/off control.
Sealing Structure:
Soft Seal: Utilizes materials such as rubber (e.g., EPDM, NBR) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), suitable for normal temperature, low pressure, and non-corrosive media, offering excellent sealing performance.
Hard Seal: Metal-to-metal (e.g., stainless steel) seal, resistant to high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive media, but its sealing performance is slightly inferior to the soft seal.
Working Principle
Electric Control:
After receiving an external signal, the electric actuator drives the motor to rotate. A reducer decreases the speed and increases the torque, rotating the valve plate to a specified angle (0°-90° fully open).
The stroke control module ensures precise valve plate positioning, preventing over-opening or over-closing.
Center-line Seal:
When the valve plate rotates, the sealing surface tightly contacts the valve seat, forming an annular sealing band, achieving zero or low leakage sealing.
Bidirectional Flow:
The medium can flow in both directions without distinguishing between inlet and outlet directions, adapting to complex pipeline layouts.
Core Features
Compact Structure, Easy Installation:
The wafer-type connection eliminates the need for welding or additional flanges, shortening installation time and reducing labor intensity.
Small Size and Light Weight, Suitable for Space-Constrained Applications (e.g., equipment floors, basements).
Low Flow Resistance, Energy Efficient:
The centerline design minimizes pressure loss during fluid flow, reducing system energy consumption.
High Degree of Automation:
Supports remote monitoring, timed switching, flow regulation, and other functions, and can be integrated into DCS, PLC, or building automation systems.
Reliable Sealing, Simple Maintenance:
Soft-seal valves offer excellent sealing performance, while hard-seal valves are wear-resistant and have a long service life.
Valve seats can be replaced online without disassembling the valve body, reducing maintenance costs.
High Cost-Effectiveness:
Compared to flanged butterfly valves, the wafer-type structure is more cost-effective and suitable for large-scale applications.
Typical Applications
Water Treatment Systems:
Regulating water levels in water tanks, controlling pump start/stop, and balancing pipeline pressure.
HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning):
Regulates the flow rate of air conditioning water systems to achieve zoned control or variable flow operation.
Chemical Industry:
Controls or shuts off the flow rate of corrosive media (such as acids, alkalis, and salt solutions).
Food and Pharmaceutical:
Uses aseptic control in clean piping systems (requires sanitary-grade materials, such as 316L stainless steel).
Fire Protection System:
Serves as the on/off valve for fire pumps, enabling remote linkage control.
Municipal Water Supply:
Regulates the flow rate and pressure of urban water supply networks to ensure water safety.
Key Selection Parameters
Nominal Diameter (DN):
Selected according to pipe size; common range DN50-DN600; oversized diameters require customization.
Nominal Pressure (PN):
Soft-seal valves generally ≤PN1.6 (1.6MPa), hard-seal valves can withstand PN2.5-PN6.4 (2.5-6.4MPa).
Operating Temperature:
Soft-seal valve operating temperature range: -10℃~120℃ (depending on sealing material).
Hard-seal valve operating temperature range: -20℃~350℃ (depending on valve body material).
Media Characteristics:
Corrosive media require stainless steel or fluoropolymer-lined materials; media containing particles require wear-resistant design.
Control Method:
On/Off type (fully open/fully closed) or regulating type (proportional control, requires a positioner).
Protection Rating:
Outdoor use requires IP65 or higher protection rating, dustproof and waterproof; indoor use IP54 is optional.
Explosion-proof Requirements:
Flammable and explosive environments require explosion-proof electric actuators (such as ExdIICT4).
Common Problems and Solutions
Leakage Problem:
Causes: Sealing surface wear, foreign object obstruction, insufficient actuator torque.
Solutions: Inspect the sealing surface and clean impurities; adjust the actuator torque setting; replace the sealing ring.
Actuator malfunction:
Causes: Power failure, poor signal line contact, motor damage.
Solution: Check the power supply and signal lines; replace the motor or reducer.
Slow or stuck operation:
Causes: Impurities in the valve body, insufficient lubrication, valve plate deformation.
Solution: Clean the valve body; add grease; correct or replace the valve plate.
