What is Electric stainless steel flange butterfly valve

Jan 21, 2026 Leave a message

Stainless steel electric flange butterfly valves, also known as flap valves, are simple regulating valves used for on/off control of low-pressure pipeline media. A butterfly valve is characterized by its closing element (valve disc or butterfly plate) being a circular plate that rotates around its axis to open and close. Valves can be used to control the flow of various types of fluids, including air, water, steam, various corrosive media, slurry, oil, liquid metals, and radioactive media. They primarily function as shut-off and throttling devices in pipelines. The opening and closing element of a stainless steel electric flange butterfly valve is a disc-shaped butterfly plate that rotates around its own axis within the valve body to achieve opening, closing, or regulation.

Sealing Structure

Soft Seal: Employs nitrile rubber, EPDM, or PTFE sealing rings, suitable for low-temperature and low-pressure conditions (≤120℃, ≤1.6MPa), offering excellent sealing performance and low leakage rate.

Hard Seal: Triple eccentric metal sealing structure; the valve seat and butterfly plate are made of stainless steel with different hardnesses. The eccentric design achieves a "tighter as it closes" effect, resisting high temperatures (≤425℃) and high pressures (PN16-PN25), with a lifespan three times that of traditional butterfly valves.

Bidirectional Seal: The sealing ring can be embedded in the valve body or attached to the periphery of the butterfly plate, supporting bidirectional sealing and installation in any direction, adapting to changes in media flow direction.

Structural Advantages

Compact and Lightweight: The centerline disc design with welded short-structure steel plates results in a lightweight design and requires minimal installation space.

Low Flow Resistance: Large flow area when fully open, suitable for high-flow-rate applications (e.g., power plant cooling water systems).

Rapid Opening and Closing: Simple operation, low opening and closing torque, and opening/closing time can be reduced to 10 seconds (e.g., replacing traditional gate valves in catalytic cracking units of oil refineries).

Applications:

Petrochemical Industry

Transporting crude oil and weak acid/alkali media, replacing traditional gate valves, reducing failure rate by 60%, and saving up to 2 million tons of water annually.

In catalytic cracking units of oil refineries, the sealing life of hard-seal butterfly valves has been increased from 2 years to 8 years.

Power and Metallurgy

Power plant cooling water pipelines use electric butterfly valves, reducing system energy consumption by 15%.

Steel plant blast furnace gas pipelines use triple-eccentric electric butterfly valves, providing reliable sealing performance and reducing the risk of gas leakage.

Water Treatment and Heating

Using DN1200 electric butterfly valves in urban water supply systems, achieving zoned pressure control, significantly increasing annual water savings.

In wastewater treatment plants, soft-seal butterfly valves offer strong corrosion resistance, reducing maintenance costs by 40%.

Food and Pharmaceutical Industry

The food industry uses silicone rubber sealing rings, meeting hygiene standards and preventing media contamination.

The pharmaceutical industry uses clean-type stainless steel valve bodies, supporting CIP/SIP cleaning, meeting GMP requirements.
