What are the different types of high pressure valves

Nov 13, 2025 Leave a message

High-pressure valves are critical components in pipeline systems, designed to control the ‌flow direction, pressure, and flow rate‌ of media under high-pressure conditions (typically exceeding ‌20 MPa‌). Below are the primary types of high-pressure valves, each with specific functions and advantages:

1. Globe Valve

Function‌: Primarily used to ‌shut off or regulate‌ media flow in pipelines.

Features‌:

Simple structure with ‌excellent sealing performance‌.

Suitable for ‌small-to-medium-sized pipe systems‌.

Operated manually, but can be equipped with ‌electric or pneumatic actuators‌ for automation.

2. Safety Valve

Function‌: Protects equipment and pipelines by ‌automatically releasing excess pressure‌ when system pressure exceeds a set limit.

Features‌:

High sensitivity‌ and ‌reliable operation‌.

Widely used in ‌boilers, pressure vessels, and other high-pressure systems‌.

3. Gate Valve

Function‌: Ideal for ‌large-diameter pipelines‌, enabling full open/close flow control.

Features‌:

Gate moves vertically‌ along the pipeline centerline.

Low flow resistance‌ and ‌small operating torque‌.

Suitable for ‌water, steam, and oil pipelines‌.

4. Check Valve (Non-Return Valve)

Function‌: Prevents ‌media backflow‌ by automatically closing when flow reverses.

Features‌:

Simple structure‌ and ‌fast response‌.

Commonly used in ‌water supply, chemical, and power plants‌.

5. Butterfly Valve

Function‌: Enables ‌quick on/off‌ and flow regulation via a 90° rotating disc.

Features‌:

Compact, lightweight, and easy to operate‌.

Good sealing‌ and ‌flow capacity‌, suitable for ‌frequent operation‌.

Handles various media (e.g., water, gas, chemicals).
