Performance and working principle of knife gate valve

1. Working principle

Vertical movement of gate plate controls on-off

The opening and closing part of knife-type gate valve is gate plate, whose movement direction is perpendicular to the direction of fluid, and the gate plate is driven up and down by the valve stem to realize medium on-off.

When closed: the knife-shaped bevel cut at the bottom of the gate plate fits tightly with the valve seat, cutting off the flow of medium; when open: the gate plate is completely separated from the flow channel, and the medium flow resistance is extremely low.

Sealing mechanism

Forced sealing: Most knife-type gate valves rely on external driving force (such as pneumatic or electric actuators) to press the gate plate against the valve seat to ensure sealing.

Self-sealing: Some models use medium pressure to assist sealing (such as fluid pressure to enhance the contact between the gate plate and the valve seat during forward flow).

Drive mode

Supports manual, pneumatic or electric operation. Pneumatic actuators drive piston movement through compressed air, and electric actuators control the rise and fall of the valve stem through motors.
2. Core Performance

Wear and Corrosion Resistance

The gate and valve seat sealing surfaces are made of hard materials (such as ceramics, carbide or cladding stainless steel), which can withstand long-term erosion of solid particles, high viscosity or corrosive media.

Lightweight and compact design

The valve body adopts a reinforced rib structure, which is 20%-30% lighter than traditional gate valves and easy to install and maintain.

The ultra-thin valve body design saves space and is suitable for narrow pipeline layout.

Sealing Reliability

Metal hard seals or elastic sealing gaskets (such as PTFE) are used, and the leakage level can reach ANSI VI level. Some models support bidirectional sealing.

Multi-condition adaptability

Pressure range: 1.0MPa-2.5MPa (conventional models), some high-pressure models can reach PN40.

Temperature range: -29℃~650℃, high-temperature models use bellows stem seals to avoid leakage due to packing aging.
