How does a ceramic disc valve work

1. Core Workflow
Opening and Closing Control Mechanism
The ceramic valve adjusts the flow rate through the synergy of the streamlined throttling cone and the double sealing assembly. The rotation of the valve stem drives the axial movement of the valve core, changes the gap between the valve core and the ceramic valve seat, and forms an adjustable flow channel cross-sectional area.
Different from the traditional metal stop valve, the ceramic valve core adopts a combination of a hard ceramic sealing surface (aluminum oxide or silicon nitride) and an elastic soft sealing ring. When closed, the ceramic sealing surface achieves zero leakage, and the soft sealing ring compensates for microscopic unevenness.
Special flow channel design
The extended surface of the streamlined throttling cone covers the soft sealing surface, so that the medium flows obliquely along the cone surface, avoiding the high-speed medium from directly scouring the sealing surface, and significantly reducing erosion and wear.
2. Key structural features
Dual composite sealing structure:
Hard sealing layer: The valve core and valve seat are made of high-purity industrial ceramics (surface roughness Ra≤0.2μm), with a temperature resistance of 1200℃ and a hardness ≥HRA90, which can resist particle erosion; Elastic soft seal: A fluororubber or PTFE sealing ring is embedded at the bottom of the valve core to compensate for the microscopic deformation of the ceramic sealing surface. Anti-wear design: The isostatic pressing process of ceramic components ensures the density of the material, and the surface is diamond-polished, with a friction coefficient as low as 0.05.

3. Performance advantages
Adaptability to extreme working conditions
Corrosion resistance: Ceramic materials resist corrosion from acid/alkali/salt solutions and are suitable for highly corrosive media (such as hydrofluoric acid, molten salt); High temperature stability: The thermal expansion coefficient is extremely low (≤5×10⁻⁶/K), and the sealing integrity can be maintained in the range of -196°C to 800°C. ‌Long-life maintenance advantage‌

The wear rate of the ceramic sealing surface is only 1/10 of that of the metal valve, and the service life can reach 100,000 opening and closing cycles;
The replacement cycle of the soft sealing ring is extended to more than 3 times that of ordinary valves.
4. ‌Typical application scenarios‌
‌High-purity medium transportation‌: ultrapure water in the semiconductor industry, electronic special gas system, to avoid metal ion pollution; ‌Abrasive medium control‌: oil drilling mud, coal chemical slurry pipeline; ‌High temperature and high pressure system‌: molten salt energy storage power station, nuclear reactor cooling circuit.
