Commonly Used Valves in Water Conservancy Projects

Aug 21, 2025 Leave a message

Water conservancy projects are vital infrastructure related to national economic development and people's livelihoods. Valves, as indispensable components, directly impact project safety and efficiency. This article briefly introduces several commonly used valves in water conservancy projects, along with their characteristics and applications.

I. Gate Valve

Gate valves are the most widely used in water conservancy projects, offering flexible operation, reliable sealing, low flow resistance, and easy maintenance. They primarily cut off water flow and can also regulate flow. The closing member is the gate plate, which moves perpendicular to the water flow direction to open or close the valve.

II. Globe Valve

A globe valve is used to cut off or connect medium flow in pipelines. Its closing member is a plug-shaped disc with planar or conical sealing surfaces. Globe valves have higher flow resistance but excellent sealing, suitable for frequent operations requiring high sealing performance.

III. Ball Valve

A ball valve is a rotary valve with a spherical closing member that rotates around the valve body centerline to open, close, or regulate flow. It features simple structure, compact size, lightweight, easy operation, and good sealing, making it ideal for rapid opening/closing applications.

IV. Butterfly Valve

A butterfly valve is a simple regulating valve with a disc-shaped butterfly plate that rotates around the seat centerline to open/close. It offers low flow resistance, lightweight, quick operation, and low torque, making it particularly suitable for flow control in large-diameter pipelines.

V. Safety Valve

A safety valve protects equipment by automatically opening when pressure exceeds the set value, releasing medium to prevent damage. It is highly sensitive, seals well, and is an essential safety device in water conservancy projects.

VI. Pressure Reducing Valve

A pressure reducing valve lowers medium pressure by adjusting opening to maintain outlet pressure within a set range. It provides stable pressure reduction, easy adjustment, and reliability, widely used in water conservancy projects requiring pressure reduction.
