1. Applicability Analysis
Availability: Ball valves can be used in gas pipelines, but special ball valves (such as natural gas ball valves) that meet the characteristics of the gas medium must be selected, and their materials, sealing and safety performance must meet the requirements of high pressure, flammable and explosive environments.
Application scenarios: Long-distance natural gas pipelines: Gas-liquid linkage ball valves are widely used in natural gas trunk lines due to their non-power dependence and stable transmission characteristics; Urban gas system: Corrosion-resistant and highly sealing ball valves are required in gas meter front valves, equipment front valves and other scenarios to prevent leakage risks.
2. Key requirements for selection
Material requirements: Valve body: Stainless steel (304/316), alloy steel (such as chrome-molybdenum steel) or forged steel are preferred to withstand the corrosion of sulfides and moisture in natural gas; Sealing material: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), reinforced nylon or metal-graphite composite sealing structure must be used to ensure long-term sealing under high pressure.
Safety performance:
Fireproof design: Some scenarios need to be equipped with fireproof sealing structures to maintain sealing integrity during fire;
Leakage prevention standards: Must comply with gas pipeline industry specifications (such as Class 600~1500 pressure levels).
3. Differences from ordinary ball valves Design standards: Natural gas ball valves must pass strict air tightness tests. Ordinary ball valves (such as water ball valves) are prohibited from being used as substitutes due to insufficient materials and pressure-bearing capacity;
Pressure adaptation: Natural gas pipeline pressure is usually higher than that of water pipe systems, and special ball valves need to match higher pressure levels (such as PN4.0MPa or above).
4. Precautions for use Installation direction: Must be installed strictly according to the flow direction of the medium to avoid reverse operation causing seal failure; Maintenance cycle: Check the wear of the sealing surface and the flexibility of the valve stem every 6 months. The maintenance interval needs to be shortened in high temperature or high corrosion environments; Emergency operation: If a gas leak occurs, the ball valve in front of the meter should be closed immediately and ventilated. It is prohibited to operate the public valve privately.
