Working Principle of API 6D Pressure-Balanced Plug Valves
The core design of a pressure-balanced plug valve lies in its unique pressure-balancing structure. Traditional plug valves require overcoming the lateral thrust of media pressure on the valve core under high-pressure conditions, resulting in increased operating torque. In contrast, the pressure-balanced design achieves symmetrical pressure distribution by incorporating balancing holes or chambers within the valve core, effectively redirecting media pressure to both sides of the valve core and significantly reducing rotational resistance.
For example, during opening, upstream media flows into the rear chamber of the valve core through balancing holes, counteracting the pressure difference at the front and enabling smoother operation.
