Pneumatic sliding gate valves are operated by compressed air. When the gate valve is closed, the sealing surface is sealed solely by the medium pressure. In other words, the medium pressure presses the gate's sealing surface against the valve seat on the opposite side to ensure a proper seal. This process is known as self-sealing. Most gate valves, however, use forced sealing. In this method, external force is applied to press the gate against the valve seat to ensure a secure seal.
