The gate of the sliding gate valve consists of one or two discs, which slide between two parallel valve seats. The valve is sealed by the pressure of the working medium, which presses the disc on the downstream side against the valve seat. This sealing process does not require an additional opening structure. When the valve is not under pressure, a small spring between the two discs ensures that the sealing surface fits properly.
