Pneumatic Actuated Knife Gate Valves

Pneumatic knife gate valve is a valve driven by compressed air. Its opening and closing parts are wedge-shaped or knife-shaped gates. The gate movement direction is perpendicular to the fluid flow direction. It is usually used in fully open or fully closed fluid control scenarios.

Structural composition

Core components

Pneumatic actuator: located in the upper part of the valve, it drives the piston movement through compressed air to drive the valve stem to rise or fall or rotate.

Gate: divided into rigid integral gate or elastic wedge gate (can be slightly deformed to adapt to the sealing surface deviation), the sealing surface is often designed with a 50° wedge angle to enhance the sealing performance.

Valve body and sealing surface: the valve body is mostly made of cast iron, stainless steel or alloy steel, and the sealing surface adopts carbide surfacing or spraying process to improve wear resistance.

Valve stem: the surface is hardened (such as hard chrome plating), supports lifting or rotating movement, and some models are equipped with anti-blowout design.

Auxiliary components‌
Solenoid valve (for double-acting models), spring (reset device for single-acting models), packing gland, sealing gasket, etc.‌

Working principle‌
‌Single-acting type‌: When there is no air source, the spring pushes the piston to close the valve (normally closed) or open the valve (normally open); after the compressed air is introduced, the piston overcomes the spring force and moves in the opposite direction‌. ‌Double-acting type‌: The air source direction is switched by a two-position five-way solenoid valve, and the compressed air alternately enters the two ends of the cylinder to drive the piston to move in both directions to realize the opening and closing of the valve‌.
