The gate plate is the component that opens and closes the metal seat flange gate valve. The movement direction of the gate plate is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid flow. The gate valve can only be fully opened or fully closed; it cannot be adjusted or throttled. The gate has two sealing surfaces, and the most common configuration is for these surfaces to form a wedge shape. The wedge angle varies with the valve parameters, typically 50°, but can be 2°52' when the material temperature is relatively low.
