Ceramic butterfly valve Description
Ceramic butterfly valve (also known as ceramic flap valve) is a type of butterfly valve that uses structural ceramic material as the core sealing pair. It realizes the cutoff or flow regulation of pipeline media through the rotation of the butterfly plate, and has both regulation and switching functions. Its original design intention is to solve the problems of short life and frequent maintenance of traditional metal valves under high wear, strong corrosion and high temperature media conditions.
Core structure and material characteristics
Sealing pair design
Ceramic-ceramic seal: The butterfly plate and valve seat are made of high-performance ceramic materials such as zirconium oxide (ZrO₂) and aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃), with a hardness ≥HRA88, and the ability to resist particle erosion far exceeds that of metal materials; Wafer-type valve body: The mainstream structure is a wafer connection (such as a ceramic wafer butterfly valve), which is compact and light, and is suitable for low-pressure pipelines (usually ≤PN16).
Drive and support components
The valve stem adopts a ceramic coating sprayed on the surface of a metal substrate, which takes into account both strength and corrosion resistance to avoid jamming caused by medium penetration;
Supports manual, pneumatic or electric operation, and the pneumatic type has a short response time (≤3 seconds), which is suitable for automated control scenarios.
Performance advantages
Resistant to extreme working conditions: Withstands temperature range of -50℃ to 450℃, can be exposed to strong acids, strong alkalis and slurry media containing solid particles (particle size ≤5mm) with pH1-14 for a long time;
Long life cycle: The wear resistance of ceramic sealing pairs is more than 10 times that of stainless steel, and the service life can reach 3-5 times that of ordinary metal butterfly valves, significantly reducing the replacement frequency;
Outstanding economic efficiency: Replacing precious metals (such as Hastelloy) with ceramics reduces manufacturing costs by 30%-50%, and does not require frequent maintenance.

Ceramic butterfly valve

Applications
Power and Energy Field
Fly ash transportation pipelines in coal-fired power plants, withstand high-temperature ash erosion (flow rate ≥ 15m/s), and avoid valve seat wear and leakage;
Chemical and Metallurgical Processes
Pipelines for highly corrosive media such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, ceramic materials resist chemical erosion and ensure system sealing;
Environmental Protection and Sewage Treatment
Control of desulfurization slurry containing diatomaceous earth and limestone particles, no risk of blocking the sealing surface, and the maintenance cycle is extended to 2-3 years.
