API 609 Butterfly Valve Description
API 609 is an international standard for double flanged, lug and wafer butterfly valves, developed by the American Petroleum Institute (API). The latest version is the 8th edition (API 609-2016) in 2016. Its core specifications include:
Structural length: Strictly stipulate the face-to-face dimensions (flange end distance) of butterfly valves to ensure compatibility with pipelines;
Connection form: Covers three types of double flange, lug and wafer to meet different installation requirements;
Material requirements: WCB carbon steel, 316L stainless steel and aluminum bronze (C95800) are commonly used for valve bodies, and PTFE soft seal or metal hard seal are optional for valve seats.
Core structure and technical parameters
Sealing and pressure resistance performance:
Leakage level: Under normal working conditions, it complies with ANSI Level VI (zero visible leakage), and the high-pressure test standard refers to API 598;
Pressure range: Class 150LB (1.6MPa) to Class 600LB (10.0MPa), and some models support 42MPa high pressure.
Operational characteristics:
Drive mode: Manual, pneumatic or electric actuator, supporting fast opening and closing (≤0.05 seconds) and explosion-proof design (Ex d IIB T4);
Temperature adaptation: Soft sealing valve seat is suitable for -29℃~200℃, and hard sealing can be extended to 550℃ (such as Stellite alloy surfacing).
