Fire Safe Ball Valve uses a combination of a float, graphite seal and metal-to-metal seats to provide tight shutoff while preventing external stem leakage. Under normal operating conditions, the valve ball rests on two valve seats to ensure a gas-tight shutoff. When the valve is exposed to temperatures above the limit that the valve seats can withstand (e.g. +450°F), the valve seats will deform and be squeezed. When the valve seats are completely damaged, the valve ball in the valve will rest firmly on the end cover, creating a metal-to-metal shutoff. The valve stem seal is resistant to high temperatures, which together with the anti-blowout and anti-static valve stem further limits leakage, keeping flammable liquids separated from heat sources that could ignite it.

Fire Safe Ball Valve structural design principle

  • The fireproof ball valve is a fixed ball structure. The upstream end seal is the main seal and has a DBB function. When the seal is intact, the valve can be fully opened or fully closed to observe whether there is leakage in the upstream valve seat through the middle cavity drain port or vent port. Under normal use, the middle cavity of the pipeline ball valve is not pressurized. In the event of a fire accident, a well-designed valve seat fireproof structure can slow down the progress of the upstream pressure medium entering the middle cavity and avoid the medium leakage and internal leakage caused by the pressure increase in the middle cavity. A valve seat with a good fireproof structure design is an active measure to ensure that the pipeline ball valve has safe fireproof performance.

In the fireproof structure design, the design of the valve seat fireproof structure is the key. The valve seat has good fireproof performance. In the event of a fire accident, it can reduce the pressure of the valve stem fireproof structure and the fireproof structure design between the valve body and the left and right bodies.

  • The purpose of the valve seat fireproof structure design is:

(1) Effectively ensure that in the event of a fire accident, the upstream pressure medium flows into the valve body middle cavity through the valve seat as little as possible, thereby causing internal and external leakage. Ensure that the fire accident will not be expanded due to the valve before the firefighters arrive at the scene; after the firefighters arrive at the scene, the fire can be quickly suppressed and the fire accident can be eliminated using firefighting equipment.

(2) Make the product structure truly meet the requirements of API6D specifications. Make the product pass the fire test and obtain a fireproof certificate.

Valve seat fireproof structure design:

A graphite fireproof sealing ring is set between the metal valve seat ring and the valve body; a fireproof metal seal is set between the metal valve seat ring and the ball.
