API 6D Plug Valve Description
API 6D plug valve is a valve designed for long-distance oil and gas pipelines. It complies with API 6D standard (latest 23rd edition). Its core function is to achieve reliable cutoff and flow control of high-pressure pipelines. It is suitable for onshore/submarine pipeline systems.
Structure and design features
Sealing system
DBB (double block and release) or DIB (double isolation and release) structure
DBB type : Double valve seat seal when closed, valve cavity can release pressure (to prevent medium retention);
DIB type : Single valve seat bidirectional seal, valve seat independently isolates medium (higher safety redundancy).
Metal hard seal : The plug surface is hard chrome plated (hardness ≥ HRC60), resistant to particle erosion.
Operation method
Lifting plug: When opening and closing, the plug is first lifted axially to separate from the sealing surface to reduce wear;
Grease injection system (optional): Inject sealing grease to enhance high-pressure sealing.

API 6D standard requirements
- Design and manufacturing
The valve body material must be resistant to sulfur corrosion (in compliance with NACE MR0175);
Full port design (Full Port) or reduced port design (Reduced Port) must be clearly stated.
- Inspection and testing
Shell strength test : 1.5 times the nominal pressure;
Seal test : High and low pressure bidirectional seal leakage rate ≤ ISO 5208 F grade;
Fire safety certification : Passed API 607 fire test
