1.Definition

  • The globe valve, as a blocking type of valve, plays a key role in pipelines mainly as a cut-off. It is one of the most widely used valves today and is ideal for throttling operations. As the sealing force of globe valves is related to the medium pressure, it is necessary to apply pressure to the valve flap when closing to ensure that the seal does not leak. There are various types of connections, including flanged, screwed and welded connections. The opening and closing parts of the globe valve is a plug-shaped valve flap, driven by the valve stem flap along the centre line of the valve seat in a straight line, to achieve the cut-off of the medium, regulation and throttling effect. In the field of aerospace, globe valve as an important element, bear the medium transport, cut-off, regulation and other important functions, its sealing performance is directly related to the safe and reliable operation of aerospace equipment.
  • Check valve, also known as check valve, is widely used in various fields. It can prevent the medium from flowing backward and protect the safety and stability of equipment and pipelines. According to the working principle and structural characteristics, check valves can be divided into lift type, rotary opening type, butterfly type and other types. With the progress of science and technology, the performance of check valves is constantly optimised, such as the emergence of intelligent check valves, which can achieve remote monitoring, automatic adjustment and other functions. In the water treatment, HVAC, oil and gas, chemical and other industries, check valves play an indispensable role in guaranteeing the safety of equipment and the normal operation of the system.

These two types of valves play their unique roles in different scenarios, and the difference between them has become a focus of attention.

2. Significant structural differences

  • Globe valves are generally equipped with a handle, which provides great convenience for the user during operation. By turning the handle, you can easily control the degree of valve opening and closing, to achieve the precise adjustment of fluid flow. For example, in some industrial piping system, the operator can according to the actual demand, with the help of the handle of the globe valve to accurately control the liquid or gas flow size.
  • Check valves are usually not equipped with a tightening handle. Check valves are designed to open and close the valve flap automatically by the flow of the medium itself in order to prevent the medium from flowing backward. Its structure is relatively simple and does not require a manually operated handle. In practice, the check valve is usually automatic, when the medium is flowing, the valve is pushed open, the medium passes through smoothly; when the medium tries to flow backward, the valve flap in the medium under the pressure of the rapid closure, to prevent the medium back to flow. This automatic work of the characteristics of the check valve in many occasions can effectively protect the equipment and piping system, to avoid damage caused by the media backflow.

Globe valves and check valves in the structure of this obvious difference, determines their different applications in different scenarios play their unique role.

3.the use of very different

  • As a manual or electric valve, globe valve is widely used to cut off the liquid supply in the pipeline. In the petrochemical industry, globe valves are often used to control the delivery of raw materials and products to ensure that when needed to accurately cut off the flow of fluids.

For example, in the oil refining process, when a piece of equipment needs to be repaired or replaced, the globe valve can be quickly closed to prevent the raw materials continue to flow into the equipment, to ensure the safety of the maintenance work. Globe valve because of its opening and closing process between the sealing surface of the friction is small, more durable, open height is not large, easy to manufacture, easy maintenance, not only for low pressure, but also for high pressure environment.

  • Check valve is mainly used to automatically stop the liquid back. In the water treatment industry, the check valve is installed between the pump outlet and the water pipe, which can prevent the water flow back after the pump stops, avoiding pump idling and damage. When the pump works normally, the water flow pushes the valve flap of the check valve to open, and the water passes through smoothly; when the pump stops working, the water flow tries to flow backward, and the valve flap of the check valve closes automatically under the action of gravity and fluid pressure to stop the water flow back. In HVAC systems, check valves are used to prevent the backflow of cooling or heating water and ensure the normal operation of the system. In oil and gas pipelines, check valves prevent the backflow of liquids or gases, thus protecting the piping system and preventing the risk of explosion. In the chemical industry, the

Check valves can effectively stop the medium backflow, to prevent corrosive substances on the equipment damage.

Globe valves and check valves have a clear difference in use, globe valves are mainly used to cut off the supply of liquids in the pipeline, while check valves are used to automatically prevent the return of liquids, and they play an important role in different fields.
