Ductile iron gate valve is a gate valve with ductile iron as the valve body material. Its core characteristics and applications are as follows:
1. Definition and material characteristics
Material definition: The valve body is made of ductile iron (obtained by spheroidizing gray cast iron), which has both the casting performance of cast iron and the mechanical strength similar to that of steel.
Performance advantages:
High strength, high toughness, better impact resistance and deformation resistance than ordinary cast iron;
Good corrosion resistance, suitable for water and weakly corrosive medium environment;
Lighter weight than cast steel gate valve, lower cost than stainless steel gate valve.
2. Structural composition
Valve body and gate plate:
The valve body is integrally cast with ductile iron, and the gate plate usually adopts ductile iron + integral rubber coating process (rubber seal) or copper seal.
Transmission parts:
Valve stem (open stem or concealed stem), handwheel/electric device, transmission screw, etc.
Sealing system:
The flat-bottomed valve seat design reduces the accumulation of debris, and the rubber-coated gate plate improves the sealing performance.
3. Working Principle
By rotating the handwheel or drive device, the valve stem is driven to lift the gate vertically:
Open: The gate is lifted to the top of the valve cavity, and the fluid channel is completely unobstructed;
Close: The gate descends and presses the valve seat to block the flow of the medium.
Note: Only applicable to fully open/fully closed conditions, not for flow regulation.
4. Core application scenarios
Municipal engineering: water flow interception and water level control of water supply and drainage networks and sewage treatment plants;
Water conservancy facilities: supporting reservoirs and river gates, flood control and drainage systems;
Industrial fields: chemical and metallurgical low-pressure pipelines (≤PN16), normal temperature medium delivery systems.
5. Installation and maintenance points
Installation requirements:
Horizontal pipeline installation to ensure that the valve cavity is clean and free of impurities;
When connecting the flange, the bolts must be tightened evenly, and the operating space of the drive device must be reserved.
Maintenance features:
Regularly check the wear of the sealing rubber sleeve, and the gate needs to be replaced after the rubber sleeve is aged;
The maintenance cost is lower than that of carbon steel gate valves, and it is suitable for low-frequency opening and closing scenarios.
