The plug-type globe valve is a forced-sealing valve, requiring pressure application to the disc during closure to ensure leak-proof sealing. When the medium enters from below the disc, the operating force must overcome the combined resistance of stem-packing friction and medium pressure thrust. Consequently, the closing force exceeds the opening force, necessitating a larger stem diameter to prevent bending failure.
In recent years, with the advent of self-sealing valves, the medium flow direction has been reversed-entering the valve cavity from above the disc. This design reduces the closing force (as medium pressure assists sealing) while increasing the opening force, allowing for a smaller stem diameter. Additionally, this configuration enhances sealing tightness under medium pressure.
