What is the difference between API 6D and API 607?

 

API 607 ​​is a standard for acid seal testing of valves under fire conditions. This standard applies to ball, butterfly, gate, globe, check, and regulating valves. This test is used to determine the service life and safety performance of valves under fire conditions.

API 6D is a standard developed by the American Petroleum Institute for pressure testing pipelines and related equipment. It applies to various types of pipelines and related equipment, including ball valves, butterfly valves, and gate valves. This standard requires a test pressure of 1.5 times the design pressure and maintaining it for a certain period of time, during which there should be no significant leakage. After the test, the pressure should be slowly reduced to the design pressure and maintained within the design pressure range.

API 6D: Full name *Pipeline Valves*, it is the core standard for pipeline valves in the oil and gas industry, covering various types such as ball valves, gate valves, check valves, and plug valves, and detailing the design, manufacturing, inspection, and testing requirements.

API 607: Full name *Fire Test for Quarter-Turn Valves and Valves Equipped with Nonmetallic Seats*, it is a fire test standard specifically for quarter-turn valves (such as ball valves and butterfly valves) and valves equipped with nonmetallic seats, used to verify the sealing performance and structural integrity of valves under fire conditions.
