ANSI Stainless Steel Flanged Gate Valve

Jan 27, 2026 Leave a message

ANSI Stainless steel flanged gate valves are a common type of shut-off valve in industrial piping systems, primarily used to control the flow of media within the pipeline. This type of valve opens and closes the pipeline by raising and lowering a gate. When fully open, it offers low fluid resistance, making it suitable for applications with high flow requirements. Due to its relatively simple structure, good sealing performance, and ease of operation, stainless steel flanged gate valves are widely used in various industrial fields.

GNEE Group specializes in manufacturing valves that meet national standards such as ANSI, API, and ASTM. ISO-Certified Valves – Get Samples Instantly!

ANSI Stainless steel flanged gate valves Working Principle

The stainless steel flanged gate valve uses a rotating handwheel or drive device to vertically raise and lower the gate, moving the valve stem:

Open State: The gate rises to the top of the valve chamber, allowing fluid to flow freely.

Closed State: The gate descends to the valve seat, completely blocking fluid flow.

Its sealing surface is perpendicular to the fluid direction, achieving a seal through the tight fit between the gate and the valve seat.

ANSI Stainless steel flanged gate valves Core Structure

Valve Body: The main part connecting the pipeline, bearing fluid pressure.

Gate: The core component, available in wedge (single wedge, double wedge) and parallel types:

Wedge Gate: Achieves self-sealing through a wedge angle, suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure applications.

Parallel Gate: Simple structure, easy to repair after sealing surface wear, but slightly inferior sealing performance.

Valve Seat: Forms the sealing surface with the gate; the material must be fluid-compatible.

Valve Stem: Connects the handwheel and the gate, transmitting power.

Sealing Device: Includes a stuffing box (prevents leakage at the valve stem) and a valve cover seal.

ANSI Stainless steel flanged gate valves Main Features

Advantages:

Low fluid resistance: Unobstructed flow when fully open, resulting in low pressure loss.

Good sealing performance: Tight fit between the gate and valve seat, suitable for applications requiring high sealing.

High temperature and high pressure resistance: Wedge gate valves can withstand extreme operating conditions.

Bidirectional flow: No flow direction restriction, flexible installation.

Disadvantages:

Long opening and closing time: The gate needs to be raised and lowered vertically, resulting in slower operation.

Complex structure: More parts, making maintenance more difficult than with gate valves.

Easily worn sealing surfaces: Frequent opening and closing may lead to leakage.

ANSI Stainless steel flanged gate valves Applications

Oil and Gas: Long-distance pipelines, oil refineries, natural gas processing plants.

Chemical Industry: Pipelines for transporting corrosive media.

Power Industry: Boiler feedwater, steam pipelines.

Water Treatment: Waterworks, wastewater treatment plants.

Shipbuilding and Metallurgy: Ship piping systems, blast furnace cooling water pipelines.

ANSI Stainless steel flanged gate valves Selection Considerations

Media Type: Corrosive media require corrosion-resistant materials (e.g., stainless steel, alloy steel).

Pressure Rating: Select the matching nominal pressure (PN) based on the system pressure.

Temperature Range: Thermal expansion compensation design is required for high-temperature conditions.

Sealing Requirements: Wedge gate valves are preferred for high-sealing applications.

Actuation Method: Manual, electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic; select according to automation requirements.

ANSI Stainless steel flanged gate valves Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Regular Inspection: Check sealing surface wear and valve stem lubrication.

Common Faults:

Leakage: Damaged sealing surfaces or aging packing require grinding or replacement of seals.

Difficulty Opening/Closing: Bent valve stem or obstruction by impurities requires cleaning or alignment.

Noise: Fluid turbulence or cavitation requires optimization of flow path design.
