Soft Seated Globe Valves

The soft seat globe valve is a globe valve that uses elastic materials (such as rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, etc.) as the valve seat sealing surface. It achieves sealing through the flexible contact between the soft valve seat and the metal valve disc, and is suitable for the sealing needs of low temperature, low pressure and clean media.

Core structure and sealing mechanism

Key components:

Soft valve seat: Made of elastic materials such as EPDM and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), it relies on material deformation to compensate for the sealing surface gap.

Valve disc: Usually made of metal (such as stainless steel), with high surface finish, forming a flexible seal with the soft valve seat.

Valve stem and packing: Graphite packing or bellows seal (some high-end models) are used to prevent the medium from leaking along the valve stem.

Sealing principle:

Closed state: The valve disc presses the soft valve seat, and the sealing is achieved through elastic deformation, which can adapt to small surface unevenness.

Medium auxiliary sealing: The medium pressure pushes the valve disc to further press the valve seat to enhance the sealing effect.

‌Advantages‌:

Zero leakage seal‌: The contact sealing of soft materials and metals is better than that of hard seals, and it is suitable for clean media such as water and gas.
‌Low operating torque‌: The friction during opening and closing is small, and the manual operation is easy.
‌Corrosion resistance‌: PTFE valve seats can withstand corrosive media such as acids and alkalis.
‌Limitations‌:
‌Poor temperature resistance‌: The applicable temperature of EPDM valve seats is ≤80℃, and the PTFE valve seats are ≤150℃, which are not suitable for high-temperature steam.
‌Low pressure rating‌: Usually suitable for low-pressure conditions of ≤16 bar.
‌Easy to wear‌: Particle-containing or high-flow medium will accelerate the wear of soft valve seats and need to be replaced regularly.

Applications

‌Water treatment system‌: Opening and closing control of clean water pipelines in water plants and sewage treatment plants.
‌Food and medicine‌: Sanitary sealing requirements for sterile liquid and pharmaceutical raw material pipelines.
‌HVAC‌: Low-pressure flow regulation of chilled water and cooling water systems.
Laboratory equipment: precise cutoff and leakage prevention control of chemical reagents.
