Stem rising resilient seated gate valves are also known as lift stem gate valves (also called open stem gate valves). Typically, there are trapezoidal threads on the lifting stem. Through the nut at the top of the valve and the guide groove on the valve body, the rotary motion is converted into linear motion; in other words, the operating torque is changed into operating thrust. When the valve is opened, the fluid passage is completely clear when the height of the gate lift is equal to 1:1 times the through diameter of the valve, but this position cannot be monitored during operation. In actual use, the apex of the valve stem is used as a mark, i.e., the position where the opening stops moving, as its fully open position. To account for the locking phenomenon due to temperature changes, the valve is usually opened to the apex position and then turned back 1/2-1 turn to be considered fully open. Therefore, the fully open position of the valve is determined according to the position of the gate (i.e., travel).
