A V-port ball valve is a control valve with a V-shaped seal or V-shaped ball. The "V" shape allows for better fluid control. Molded V-orifices set V-port ball valves apart from other ball valve types.

Advantages of v-port ball valves

Precise Flow Control
V-port ball control valves have openings with different angles (15⁰, 30⁰, 60⁰, and 90⁰) to provide equal percentage flow characteristics. Rotating the ball anywhere between 0⁰ and 90⁰ helps achieve the desired flow rate. Precise flow control improves the accuracy of fluid flow in piping systems.

Low Pressure Drop
The flow path of fluid through a V-port ball valve is normally straight. Straight flow minimizes pressure drop across the valve. V-ported ball valves have a relatively high flow coefficient (Cv or Kv) compared to other control valves. The high Cv (or Kv) value allows a smaller V-ball control valve to be used to achieve the same flow rate as other larger control valves.

High Closing Pressure
One-quarter turn of the ball is enough to open or close a V-ported ball valve. The ease of operation allows the valve to be opened or closed at higher operating pressures. Therefore, lower torque actuators are ideal for its operation.

Airtight Shutoff
The floating ball principle used in V-port ball valves helps provide gas-tight shutoff and aids in flow regulation. When it closes, the ball is pressed against the valve seat by upstream pressure. This provides an airtight seal. The gas-tight seal makes V-ported ball valves suitable for gas applications.
