Trunnion ball valves can handle big jobs - high pressures and large pipe diameters. By far the most popular use for trunnion ball valves is in pipeline service. These valves are especially suited for natural gas pipelines with diameters up to 60" and pressures up to Class 600. Trunnion ball valves can also be used for higher pressures if required. By using the trunnion design, less torque is required to open and close the valve, so a smaller actuator can be used. Trunnion designs are also well suited for double block and bleed service because the upstream and downstream seats float independently, and most designs also have body or drain connections. Trunnion designs often feature seat lubrication ports, where lubricant can be injected around the seat to aid in the closing effect.
