Steam ball valves are special valves that control the passage of steam medium by rotating a ball with a circular channel.

Steam ball valves are specialised valves for on-off control of steam media by rotating a sphere. The core component is a sphere with a circular channel. When the sphere is rotated by 90°, the channel is aligned or misaligned with the flow path of the valve body to achieve steam flow or cut-off, respectively.

Core Characteristics
High Temperature Resistance

The valve body is made of SUS316L, WC6 alloy steel, etc., and can withstand steam temperatures up to 450°C. The sealing parts are made of graphite-wound gaskets;
The seals are made of graphite wound gaskets or metal hard seals to ensure sealing reliability at high temperatures.
High pressure resistance

Fully welded structural design, pressure rating up to Class 600~2500, suitable for main steam pipelines of thermal power plants (pressure >10MPa).
Low flow resistance design

Full diameter flow path (orifice diameter is the same as pipeline), reducing turbulence loss, pressure drop is 30%~50% lower than gate valve.

Selection Points
Parameter matching

Working pressure: Selected according to the design pressure of steam pipeline (e.g. 1.6MPa, 2.5MPa, 4.0MPa);
Medium temperature: more than 300 ℃ need to use metal hard seal + heat sink structure.
Material selection

Conventional conditions: the valve body is made of WCB cast steel, and the valve seat is made of 316+PTFE composite material;
Corrosive steam: priority selection of duplex stainless steel (2205) or Monel alloy.

Maintenance specification
Daily inspection

Monthly detection of sealing surface leakage (using infrared thermometer to observe temperature changes);
Periodic lubrication of the valve stem (recommended cycle 6 months) with high temperature grease (e.g. Molykote 111).
Overhaul intervals

After 3 years of continuous operation or 5000 openings and closings, the valve needs to be disassembled to replace the seat seal and packing;
Welded ball valves require penetration testing (PT) or radiographic testing (RT) to ensure weld integrity.
Note: When steam ball valves are used in conjunction with insertion steam flow meters (such as MY-LUC type), it is necessary to maintain the upstream straight pipe section ≥ 10D to ensure the accuracy of measurement.
