Soft Seat Ball Valve
Description
Soft-seat ball valve is a ball valve with non-metallic materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or graphite as the valve seat seal. The close fit between the soft valve seat and the ball achieves low leakage (leakage rate ≤ 0.01%), and is mainly used in low-pressure, low-temperature and clean media scenarios. Its typical structure includes:
Valve body: split type (two or three pieces of flange connection) or integral type, mainly made of stainless steel (304/316) and carbon steel, suitable for DN25~DN600 diameter range.
Ball and valve seat:
The surface of the ball is usually plated with hard chrome or sprayed with tungsten carbide to improve wear resistance;
The soft seat contacts the ball through spring preload or direct press fitting to ensure sealing.
Drive mode: manual lever, gearbox or pneumatic actuator, low opening and closing torque.

Advantages and limitations
Advantages:
Zero leakage seal: The soft valve seat is in full contact with the ball, and the sealing performance is better than that of metal hard seal;
Low operating torque: Low friction coefficient, easier manual operation;
Economical: The cost is only 30%~50% of that of metal sealed ball valve.
Limitations:
Limited pressure/temperature resistance: Long-term use pressure ≤ PN25, high temperature can easily cause valve seat deformation;
Not resistant to particle media: Abrasive particles can scratch the soft seat and cause leakage.
Applications
Food and pharmaceutical: Transport clean water, steam or sterile media, in line with FDA hygiene standards;
Water supply and drainage system: Low-pressure fluid control in urban water supply networks, fire protection pipelines, etc.;
Chemical and light industry: Cutting off and regulating weakly corrosive media (such as dilute sulfuric acid and alkali).
