API Lubricated Plug Valve

API lubricated hard-seal plug valve features specially formulated lubricant injected between the valve body's tapered bore and the plug, forming an oil film to reduce operating torque while enhancing sealing performance and service life. With a working pressure of up to 64 MPa, maximum operating temperature of 325°C, and maximum diameter of 600 mm, it meets the demands of more stringent operating environments.

API Lubricated Plug Valve Description

 

API lubricated plug valve adopts a ‌positive installation‌ of the cone plug, aiming to ‌reduce the friction‌ between the valve body and the plug sealing surface. This type of valve is typically equipped with a ‌seal grease lubrication structure‌ for the valve seat. Through the injection of ‌high-pressure sealing oil‌ via a ‌high-pressure oil nipple‌, a ‌high-pressure sealing ring‌ is formed around the plug-a layer of oil film between the valve body and the cone plug sealing surface. This serves ‌both as a sealing function and a lubrication function‌, making the opening and closing process smoother.

 

Advantages of API lubricated plug valves are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

High-Pressure & Corrosion Resistance‌: The valve core, made of special alloys or lined materials (e.g., PTFE), can withstand acidic, alkaline, or highly abrasive media.

Low Maintenance Requirements‌: The lubrication system significantly reduces mechanical wear, extending the valve's service life.

Bidirectional Sealing Capability‌: Ensures stable sealing regardless of the medium flow direction, making it suitable for complex pipeline systems.

Selection Guide

Based on the structural characteristics and functional capabilities of plug valves, the following selection principles are recommended:

For media distribution and flow direction change‌, with operating temperature ≤300℃, nominal pressure PN≤1.6 MPa, and nominal diameter ≤300 mm, ‌multi-port plug valves‌ are suggested.

For food and pharmaceutical industries‌ (e.g., milk, juice, beer processing equipment and pipelines), ‌austenitic stainless steel clamp-type conical plug valves‌ are recommended.

For oil/gas field operations, pipeline branch lines, and refining/cleaning equipment‌ with nominal pressure class ≤Class 300 and nominal diameter ≤300 mm, ‌oil-sealed conical plug valves‌ are preferred.

For oil/gas field operations, pipeline branch lines, and refining/cleaning equipment‌ with nominal pressure class ≤Class 7500, nominal diameter ≤900 mm, and operating temperature ≤340℃, ‌oil-sealed conical plug valves‌ are advised.

In large-scale chemical plants‌ with corrosive media requiring rapid opening/closing:

For ‌nitrate-based media‌, ‌PTFE sleeve-sealed conical plug valves‌ are suitable.

For ‌acetate-based media‌, ‌Cr18Ni12Mo2Ti stainless steel-lined PTFE sleeve-sealed conical plug valves‌ are recommended.

For gas, natural gas, and HVAC systems‌ with nominal diameter ≤200 mm, ‌packed conical plug valves‌ are preferable.
