The globe is named for its original round design, which still hides its unique and somewhat tortuous flow path. Unlike a fully open gate or ball valve, a fully open globe valve still creates a lot of friction or resistance to fluid flow with its jagged upper and lower passages. This angled flow creates fluid friction that slows flow through the valve.

Classification of API Globe Valves
1) Straight-through globe valve
2) Direct-flow globe valve: In direct-flow or Y-shaped globe valves, the flow channel of the valve body forms an oblique line with the main flow channel, so that the degree of disruption of the flow state is less than that of conventional globe valves, and the pressure loss through the valve is correspondingly smaller.
3) Angle globe valve: In angle globe valves, the fluid only needs to change direction once, so that the pressure drop through this valve is smaller than that of a globe valve with a conventional structure.
4) Plunger globe valve: This type of globe valve is a variation of a conventional globe valve. In this valve, the valve disc and valve seat are usually designed based on the plunger principle. The valve disc is polished into a plunger and connected to the valve stem, and the seal is achieved by two elastic sealing rings on the plunger. The two elastic sealing rings are separated by a collar, and the sealing ring around the plunger is pressed firmly by the load applied to the valve cover by the valve cover nut. The elastic sealing ring can be replaced and can be made of a variety of materials. The valve is mainly used for "opening" or "closing", but it is equipped with a special form of plunger or special collar, which can also be used to adjust the flow.
