Soft Seated Gate Valve

Soft-seat gate valve (also known as elastic-seat gate valve) is a valve that uses elastic materials (such as rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene) as the valve seat sealing surface.

Its core structural features include:

Elastic sealing pair: The gate and the valve seat are wrapped with soft materials (such as EPDM rubber or NBR rubber), and zero leakage sealing is achieved through extrusion;
Wedge-type structural design: The gate is wedge-shaped or parallel, and elastic deformation is used to compensate for the gap between the sealing surfaces when closed;

Flow channel form: full-diameter design, low flow resistance coefficient (usually ≤0.08), suitable for low pressure difference conditions.

Core operating principle
The soft-seat gate valve achieves medium cutoff and control through the extrusion deformation of the elastic sealing pair. Its core working process is as follows:

Gate movement:

The valve stem drives the gate to rise and fall (open stem type) or rotate (dark stem type) along a track perpendicular to the flow direction of the medium. When the gate is fully open, it will be separated from the flow channel, and the flow resistance is close to zero;
When closed, the gate is pressed into the valve seat, and the EPDM/NBR rubber sealing layer wrapped in the outer layer is squeezed to produce a deformation of 5%-10%, forming a 360° continuous sealing ring.
‌Sealing mechanism‌:

‌Two-way self-tightening effect‌: The medium pressure pushes the gate to further fit the valve seat (the greater the pressure, the tighter the seal), realizing dynamic sealing enhancement;
‌Forced sealing compensation‌: The closing force applied by the valve stem is transmitted through the trapezoidal thread, and the rigid metal skeleton and elastic material work together to compensate for processing errors and pipeline vibration.
