Gate valves can only be fully opened or fully closed and are not suitable for regulation or throttling. The gate features two sealing surfaces, typically forming a wedge shape, with the wedge angle varying based on valve specifications, usually around 50 degrees. This design is suitable for mediums with moderate temperatures up to 252 degrees Fahrenheit.

Difference between Forged Steel Gate Valve and Cast Steel Gate Valve:
The quality of forged steel gate valves is superior to that of cast steel gate valves. They can withstand large impact forces, and their mechanical properties such as plasticity and toughness are also higher compared to cast steel parts. However, their nominal diameter is relatively small, generally below DN50.
Cast steel gate valves have relatively lower pressure ratings, commonly used with nominal pressures like PN16, PN25, PN40, and 150LB-900LB. Forged steel gate valves have higher pressure ratings: PN100, PN160, PN320, 1500LB-3500LB, and so on.
Cast steel is mainly used for manufacturing parts with complex shapes that are difficult to forge or require high strength and plasticity. Casting involves liquid molding, whereas forging is a plastic deformation process. Forged components benefit from improved internal structure, better mechanical properties, and uniform grain structure. Critical components often require forging due to these advantages, as casting can lead to tissue segregation and structural defects. However, casting remains advantageous for molding complex shapes where forging is impractical or cost-prohibitive.
